Executive Board Newsletter

February 2021

Greetings Chefs and Culinarians

It is hard to believe it is almost Spring. January went so fast. This past month we were able to host a fantastic virtual demo on our gotomeetings.com site. Chef Susan Notter CEPC presented valentine chocolates and desserts. The meeting went great, and we were able to invite other chapters to join in. By now, all the participants should have already received an email with a CEH certificate. Certification is an integral part of our continuing education for certification. If you have not received your CEH yet and attended the meeting, please email [email protected].

The board of directors had a very productive meeting on Sunday, January 24th. We decided to combine a few committees which will help promote our monthly educational programs. The board has many new faces as well. We will focus on the Chef and Child program, and we have a few eager people who will head this up for the Chapter. There is nothing better than sharing our knowledge with the young in our city. Remember, if you are interested in helping with any of our events, please feel free to reach out to us.

We are also in the process of updating the Chapter's website, acfcolumbus.org, with the photos and information of the new board of directors. You will be able to find contact information and put faces to the names of the board members.

On February 15th, we are hosting another virtual meeting using the gotomeeting.com platform. The presenter is Chef Jason Hall, CMC. It will show us how to use an innovative, state-of-the-art, intuitive, and customizable technology to produce consistent, standardized results. He will also discuss his approach to the evolution of a dish and how your interactions with fellow culinarians can benefit your culinary style. You can find more information and the registration on our website. It is also essential to sign up for our web page meetings to receive your CEH's for any events coming up.

We will also hold our next board of directors meeting on Sunday, February 14th, to continue working on the Chapter's success.

As you know, there will be an election in May to elect the Chefs who will serve on the National Board of Directors for the next two years. At the Chapter's Board of Trustees' request, the Chapter's Executive Board has discussed this election and voted to support the following candidates for National Office. These chefs will bring a lot of talent and dedication to the American Culinary Federation's national office. We believe them to be the most qualified among those running for their respective position.

  • Chef Mark Wright, CEC, AAC for National President
  • Chef Michael Moench, CEC, M.S. Ed for National Treasurer
  • Chef William Tillinghast, CEC, AAC for National Secretary
  • Chef Barry Young CEC, CCE, AAC, MBA for Northeast Regional Vice President

Additionally, please make sure to review the ACF Chef's Table discussion board on the national website. Maybe you could assist someone by asking a question, or perhaps some of the information could help you.

Finally, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the National Office canceled the Pittsburg Chef Forum, but as of right now, the Nashville Chef Forum is still scheduled to take place on April 11-14, 2021, Sheraton Music City Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee. You can find more information about the event at https://www.acfchefs.org/ACF/Events/ACF/EventsThere is also a Regional American Academy of Chefs Dinner scheduled on April 11th, at which our own Vice president, Chef Doug Maneely CEC AAC will be officially inducted into the AAC.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting on February 15th.
